CARL JOHAN GUSTAV KRÜGER
Krügers description of his method, send to the Royal
General Custome Chamber and Trade Collegium
1844 - 1846
Lille Torvegade 125, Christianshavn
Timber Master
Carl Krüger's
son, Carl
Johan Gustav
Krüger studied
in 1844 to be an
engineer. He is
like so many others
bothered by the strong
sulfur smell coming
from the sticks
when they burn
and experimenting
therefore to get this
away. In
April 1844, he has
found the solution
and therefore seeks to
6 years of
exclusivity of
fabricating these friction match
sticks that is
completely free of sulfur
smell. He seeked for
the firm C.
Krüger & son
as he, because of
his studies and
other chores would
leave the Board of Directors
of the factory to his
father.
There is no industry
registration for the
factory, probably because it
is run as
part of a carpentry
business, but in
the late 1840s
working Carl
Kruger as manager in a brandy producing
factory until he
gets finished his
Master in engineering.
After this he devoted
himself to a
completely different and
new industry, wallpaper
industry where he in
1871 established the first
wallpaper factory,
which was
equipped with printing machines.
