PHILIP ÅKERMANN

Philip Åkermann (1817 - 1884),
immigrated from Sweden , private secretary of the Royal Swedish-
Norwegian minister .
In 1844 Åkermann writes to the Chamber of Customs that he
intends to settle down in Copenhagen and be a friction match
stick manufacturer.
When he subsequently submit samples of his sticks as proof that
he actually also has the skill , he announces that he will
establish in Amagergade 324-325 (which is diagonally opposite
Kølbel´s factory) .
But when the fire department comes in to inspect the premises ,
they note that production has already started and when they find
the rooms too small and unfit the police areasked to clear the
premises.
Åkermann find in haste some other premises of Christianshavn in
Sct.
Annægade 278 where he can set up his factory and he gets his
license the 30th of
November 1844 by paying the statutory fee of 17 rigsdaler .
It is not known how long Åkermann produces its sticks, which
also have the advantage that they can better withstand moisture
than many other brands , but in 1850 Åkermann traveled
back to Sweden, where he set up himself as an agricultural
engineer.
