Vimmelskaftet 22, Copenhagen
On the 19th of
May 1841 Cand. Phil.
and powder cap
manufacturer Hans Marius
Ramsing got
a 5-year exclusive
right to manufacture friction tinder
boxes where
the match sticks are saturated
with turpentine
instead of the normal ones, where ends
are attached with
sulfur. For its
exclusive rights Ramsing
may pay the mandatory
fee of 17
Rigsdaler.
Ramsing,
who lived in Sct.
Pederstræde,
entered into a partnership
with merchant
John Stonor
and together
they built a factory in a side-building in
Vimmelskaftet 22,
where Jorcks
passage at "Strøget"
is today.
Ramsings product
was described by the
Industrial Exhibition in 1840
as "not so
beautifully packaged,
but very cheap
and perhaps
preferably more
than carpenter
AM Rohmells
because they provide
a constant flame,
without explosion.
Ramsing and
Stonor close their
factory in late
1845.
