CARL FERDINAND GUNDORPH
1844 - 1847
Carl Ferdinand Gundorph (1807 - ca. 1847)
Vesteraa 314, Aalborg
In 1844, the former
home teacher and
privileged silk hat manufacturer,
Carl Ferdinand
Gundorph applies for
a license to establish a match stick
factory in his house in
Vesterå 314
in Aalborg, where a
number of other master craftsmen
have their workshops.
Gundorph that
even before the
application has
bought the machines
for production,
describes this in his
application, "in addition
to having a unique
living inventory for
the common way to
fertilize the
aforementioned sticks,
I have even
designed twain
shaving or
cutting machines, one of which
cuts the sticks
round and the second
square ".
Gundorph gets its
license on the 18th
of June 1844, but already
in 1847 he sells
his property in
Vesterå and moves
with his family to a
farm in Koldenå
at Frederikshavn.
His wife, Vilhelmine
Augusta Heinze
is in the census in
1850 listed as
a widow. There are
not found anything in
the church records on
Gundorphs death,
so it is likely
that he may have
participated and fallen in the 3-year
war, 1848-1850 .
