CARL ABRAHAM METZ
1857
Østergade 212, Randers
The merchant Carl
Abraham Metz
sold matches and
chocolate from his
grocer's shop in
Østergade, but
in 1857 he sought and
obtained license to
manufacture and sell
both chocolate and matches.
Metz bought
Müllertz appliances
and machines and
installed them in an
outhouse at
his house in Østergade where he, the
same year, started the production
together with his brother,
Benny Metz.
Already in 1860
Metz interest in
the matches began to
fall and
therefore he sold the equipment to
grocery colleague,
Søren Larsen
Sørensen, who then
moved the equipment to
his house in
Vestergade.
